Look Good, Feel BetterLook Good Feel Better is a non-medical, brand-neutral public service program that teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling, helping people with cancer to find some normalcy in a life that is by no means normal. The program is open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other forms of treatment. To register, contact Christina Ballard at 240-994-2863.
Road to RecoveryThe American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program provides transportation for cancer patients to get to their appointments and treatment sessions. The free service is provided by trained volunteers who donate their time and vehicles. Call 1 (800) 227-2345 or visit Cancer.org for more information.
Healthy StepsHealthy Steps is a therapeutic exercise and movement program for those with chronic illnesses. It incorporates music and other elements to promote physical and emotional health and well-being. The Wellness Center offers free Healthy Steps classes on the second Saturday of each month, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and Wellness Center members can participate in additional classes. ReikiFauquier Health offers Reiki as a healing therapy for Infusion Center patients. Reiki is the practice of channeling universal life energies through a Reiki practitioner into an injured, ill, or otherwise distressed person. In a calm, relaxed setting, the therapist transfers healing energy into the patient through the laying on of hands. Many patients experience a change in physical and/or emotional well-being over a series of Reiki sessions.
